About 750,000 years ago, many inhabitants lived in Britain which was a part of the European continent until the end of the last ice age and the Dark Iberians were the first inhabitants who arrived from the Mediterranean via the Atlantic coast of portugal ,spain and france. They survived by gathering foods , hunting and farming the land .They constructed an impressive monuments in stone or megaliths in salisbury plain which was a place of worship or an astronomical obsevatory and it was regarded as the most well known and mysterious archaeological sites in the world . The druids used it to mark the passing of seasons and today it’s a touristic site as well as a place of gathering for some minority groups and travellers. After the Iberians , the celts who killed and enslaved them arrieved from Central Europe ,what pushed the Iberians to escape to Scotland ,wales and Ireland . The celts took advantage of the most fertile lands and they were advanced in artisnship . The Druids who administered religion , the education of young people and justice were the most influential celts . They worshipped naturel elements and they sacred water they were warriors who relied on oral transmission using bards and poets besides that there were no literary production only some art crafs .
The romans invaded britain by Julius Caesar who won the allegiance of the inhabitants to Rome but the area was invaded under Emperor Claudius . The romans introduced their language and culture and they constructed roads ,cities and castles which was all what they left behind despite their long occupatin to Britain . And now the only reminder of their precence is places names ending with suffix « cester » that means « military camp » .
They built the Hadrian wall in order to protect their povince of Britannia from the Scots and the picts attacks ..
